Jan Nikolai Nelles
Nefertiti Hack
Jan Nikolai Nelles is a German multi-disciplinary artist, graduating from Offenbach University of Art and Design in 2011. This Berlin-based multidisciplinary artist collaborates with Nora Al-Badri since 2009. Their artistic practice encompasses visual art, documentary filmmaking and cultural activism. Their work addresses hegemonic and neo-colonial power structures and representations of the Global North and South, reflecting on the absurdity of the human condition. The pair stage interventions to challenge social infrastructures and institutions through civil disobedience, and pursue a critical re-evaluation of the cultural commons.7
Jan will talk about the stunning project The Other Nefertiti. Al-Badri and Nelles scanned the head of Nefertiti clandestinely in the Neues Museum Berlin without permission of the Museum and they announced the release of the 3D data of Nefertitis head. With regard to the notion of belonging and possession of objects of other cultures, the artists intention is to make cultural objects publicly accessible.
